Scrapbook Folder Tips Techniques, and Ideas
Have children journal on paper that has been cut to the size of the booklet, and then glue the journaling onto the booklet page. It adds color, and if they need a do-over you don't have to redo the whole booklet, just the paper.
If your student can't think of a sentence, much less a paragraph, use copy work methods. Copying is highly underrated. Children learn all kinds of skills through copying. Simply instruct your child to copy text from a book or Web site on the subject matter.
Journaling is important even if it's just a few keywords or short sentences. The creative answers generated from your children are what make these pages special.
Add extensions to folders or flip books to portfolios with Flip Flop Fasteners™ (economically available at scrapbook stores in packs of 75). The butterfly shaped fasteners are clear and more durable than card stock. Stack several pages together to make a mini flip book or flip-out pages, facing up, down or sideways. Click here to see a video on how to use these fasteners.
Scrapbook adhesive dispensers work faster and neater compared to glue sticks for mounting photos, clipt art or booklets. Double sided and acid free.(Glue sticks make papers crumple).
Spray adhesive like 3M Spray Mount Artist Adhesive (vailable at office supply stores) is the best adhesive for putting together the folders.
Reinforce your scrapbook folders with card stock. Use the folder as a template to cut the card stock in the shape of the folder. Then spray the folder with adhesive spray glue and cover the folder with the card stock. The folders are much sturdier and look much better. This way you can utilize patterned paper for folder covers. When you buy card stock in bulk the cost is a few pennies and will keep the folder looking nice for years.
If you would like to expand your folder beyond the lessons you can quickly find images on the Internet. Try Google's image search. Go to Google.com, select Images (above the search window), and then type in the key word. Caution: Make sure your SafeSearch Filtering is set on Strict filtering.
If your child makes a mistake, you don't have to start over. Cover the problem with an embellishment.

Save Money
Colored file folders can be purchased in bulk at Office Depot, Office Max or Staples.
- Card stock (12" x 12") can be purchased in bulk at BJs', Costco, or Sam's Club for pennies a sheet (compared to 20 to 60 cents a sheet at scrapbook stores). You can trim 12" x 12" paper to 8.5" x 11" with a paper trimmer.
- Michael's stores frequently give 40% to 50% coupons in the newspaper. You can purchase card stock or other scrapper items (pens, scissors, etc.) in bulk.
- Check eBay for used scrapbook supplies.
- Take the children to a scrapbook store to use the materials available there. Some may charge a small fee, many don't charge if you purchase products in house . Bonus: They often have a play area for preschoolers.
- Find other scrapbookers and trade for items you need. Croppers (scrapbookers) are nice people. Sometimes they have scraps of paper or extra stickers they are never going to use, and will sometimes freely offer them to your children if you mention you are now into Scrapbooking to Learn.
Save every scrap of paper in a special container. Small scraps are great for punches, matting clip art, and more. Try an accordian type file (used for bills) to save paper scraps by color.

Get Organized
- Keep everything you need to create your booklets (clip art, stickers, scraps, etc.) all in zip-lock freezer baggies, and everything will be in one place and ready to use. Snip the corners off the baggies to let the air out, and the baggies will lay flat for easy storage.
- If you purchased this book in electronic format you’ll need 8.5" x 11" printer paper to print out the pages in this book. If you purchased this book in paperback format we suggest you copy the pages to create the booklets. You can use white printer paper or colored paper to make the booklets. You have our permission to print out copies for all the children in your family.
- Portable plastic filling, portable filing containers are great for storing paper. Most colored scrapbooking paper comes in 12" x 12" sheets.
- Scrapbooking organizers will hold papers, supplies, etc. These are available as portable systems or wall systems from scrapbook and office supply stores.
Most office supply stores (Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, etc.) have fairly inexpensive crates with expandable handles on them (like on luggage) and they fold completely flat. These are very handy for carrying supplies from room to room in your house or for taking supplies outside of your home, such as to a friend's house.
